One of the most collectable R9s of all Historic era, the "Murphy Painted" Les Pauls have great Tom Murphy's touch not in the aging (because it has none) but in the paint job. The result is an absolutely exceptional and unrivaled "burst".
During his time at Gibson, Tom Murphy painted the first 25 R9's from 1993 and the first 200 from 1994, until he left the factory in November 2nd of that year. This officially only took place again in 1999 with the first 100 40th Anniversary R9's, and in 2013 for the 20th Anniversary Murphy Burst run, that celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the Historic Custom Shop.
So here we have one of those beautiful guitars, with a gorgeous top, like the really great examples from those early years. Jaw-dropping from every angle! Also, quite light (8lbs 11oz) and very resonant and "sparkly", especially in the bridge position, with incredible cutting highs, one of the most poweful and intense we've ever heard.
The guitar is ridiculously clean, practically NOS. Hard to believe that a 20-year-old guitar can be this clean, and this is the cleanest 94 we've encountered for sure. It has some very minor chipping around the very edge of the lower strap button (which is usual to see). Otherwise it's basically new. No fret wear, dings, scratches, repairs... nada. 100% and unmodded. Nice weight too, 8lbs 11oz!
Includes original brown Gibson case with pink interior. No COA's were issued in 1994.
